PHILIPPIANS 2:4–5 “Do not look out only for yourself, but also about others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? This verse is about the attitude a person should have to others. By default, we often live on the following standpoint: me, my interests, my goals are first. And here God offers a different approach: not only about oneself, but also about others. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? 1. “NOT ONLY FOR YOURSELF” DOES NOT MEAN FORGETTING ABOUT YOURSELF. This is not about completely ignoring yourself and your life. It is about prioritizing: not making yourself the center. 2. “BUT ALSO ABOUT OTHERS” IS ABOUT CARE. Notice: — people's needs, — their condition, — their pain. Do not pass by, but be empathetic to other people's problems and feelings. 3. “THE SAME ATTITUDE THAT CHRIST JESUS HAD” This is the key. Jesus did not live on the standpoint of “what is convenient for me”, but on the standpoint of “how to serve, help, and support”. 4. IT IS ABOUT ONE'S INNER STATE It is not just external actions, but how a person thinks and feels with their heart: is there a sincere desire to do good to others or is it just for “showing off” and self-esteem. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Living only for oneself is a form of pride, and it has powerful side effects on all areas of a person's life, destroying the soul. HOW TO USE IT TODAY 1. Notice the people around you, their worries and needs, and do not live only for your own goals and interests. 2. Ask yourself: How can I be helpful? 3. Learn to listen and understand, not just talk and prove. 4. Do good even in small things. CONCLUSION Real life goes beyond “thinking only about oneself”. FINAL THOUGHT When a person thinks only about themselves, they become ill with pride. But when they begin to see others, to help, to care, and to live on the standpoint of giving and serving others — this is true Kindness and Love for one's neighbor. PRAYER Lord, help me not to focus only on myself and my needs and problems. Teach me to see people and to be attentive, kind, and open to them. Give me a heart that always wants to do good and serve other people unconditionally. Amen.
