JOHN 13:1
“…Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse is the beginning of a very important moment. Jesus already knows what lies ahead: betrayal, suffering, and death. And it is at this moment that something amazing happens: He gathers His disciples, sits down with them to have dinner... and then rises and begins to wash their feet. This may seem strange to modern people, but back then, it was a servant's job – the simplest, even humiliating.
And here is the meaning: He Who is the Teacher and the Lord becomes a servant to His disciples.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
The phrase “loved them to the end” is revealed through Jesus’ actions.
He does not simply speak of love, He demonstrates it:
— when He serves His disciples,
— when He does not push away their weakness,
— when He does not turn away, even knowing that one of them will betray Him.
And then, even deeper: He goes to the cross. That is, “to the end” does not mean until a certain point, but to the limit, to the point of complete sacrifice.
For simple understanding, Jesus shows that love is not words or emotions, but a willingness to always be nearby, to serve, and not turn away, even when it is difficult.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
For most people, love means: “I feel good with this person”, “I'm appreciated – I love”.
But as soon as it becomes difficult and uncomfortable, love ends. Jesus demonstrates a different kind of love: a love that does not go away when things get difficult.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Revise your understanding of love – it is not just feelings, it is actions.
• Do not wait for ideal conditions to show kindness and love to people.
• Learn to notice simple opportunities to help and support.
• Take a step toward God – not through perfection, but through humility and an open heart.
CONCLUSION
God's love is not a theory. This is action, humility, and sacrifice carried through to the end.
FINAL THOUGHT
When Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, it seemed like a simple gesture. But in reality, it was the beginning of the path to the cross. He stooped down to serve... and went all the way to save.
True love never rises above a person, but comes to them.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You love people so much that You gave Your life and went to the cross. Help me learn to love others. Love unconditionally. Change my proud heart, teach meekness and humility. I want to be like You. Amen.
