MATTHEW 12:36–37 “I tell you, on the day of judgment, people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? This verse is about the meaning of a person's words. It is about how words are not just sounds, but an expression of what is going on inside. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? Jesus says that words have weight and consequences. “Every careless word” is not just about bad words, but about empty, thoughtless ones, spoken without inner responsibility. What a person says “just like that” is not really just like that. Words always come from within. And therefore, “people will give account” means people do not live without consequences. Their words are also a part of their lives. “By your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” means that words reveal a person's state. Words are a manifestation of the heart. What is inside sooner or later comes out. And that is exactly why the person's true nature becomes apparent. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Modern people often do not attach importance to words: they say something and forget it, make a joke, let their emotions out, etc. But this verse says: nothing is neutral. Words shape, destroy, and reveal our inner state. And the most subtle thought is this: the problem is not just in the words, but in what lies behind them. If a person does not watch their words, it shows that they do not watch their inner state. HOW TO USE IT TODAY • Pay attention to what and how you say. • Do not justify it as “just words or a joke”. • Learn to stop before speaking. • Work not only with words, but with your inner state.
