JOHN 16:23
“…Very, very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in My name”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
Jesus speaks to his disciples about prayer — that after His departure they will be able to address God directly. This sounds like a very powerful promise: ask, and God will give. But it is important to understand what Jesus means when He says, “ask in My name”.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
“Very, very truly” is emphasizing: it speaks of an important and reliable truth.
“Whatever you ask” is not about the fulfillment of any desire or whim. It is about the prayer of a person who lives in a close relationship with God and asks for help.
“In My name” is the key part of the verse. In life, when a person comes “on behalf” of someone important, they are treated differently because they are not on their own, but have the authority of another person behind them. The same applies here: praying in the name of Jesus means coming to God not on the basis of oneself, but on the basis of Christ.
This means: “I come to You not because I am worthy, but because Jesus has revealed this path to me”. And such prayer is always connected to a person seeking not simply their own, but that which is in accordance with God's will.
“Will give you” — God answers prayers. But the answers can be varied:
— “yes”
— “wait a little, the time will come”
— “no, because this will not lead you to life and will not bring you any benefit”.
And in all the cases, God acts not out of indifference, but out of love.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Many people become disappointed with prayer because they expect God to fulfill their desires.
But Jesus speaks of something else: of a relationship in which a person trusts God, and God leads the person to true good and helps in everything that does not harm the soul.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Speak to God sincerely, as to the Father.
• Ask not only for your desires, but also for what is truly right and important and in accordance with His will.
• Trust God even when the answer is not what you expected.
• Build a relationship with God, and do not just turn to Him in times of need.
CONCLUSION
Prayer is not a way to get everything you want, but a living conversation with God, Who knows what a person truly needs.
FINAL THOUGHT
God is not a wish-fulfilling machine. He is the Heavenly Father. And when a person begins to pray “in the name of Jesus”, their requests gradually change: they become deeper, purer from selfishness, and closer to the truth.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to pray correctly. Teach me to ask not only for what I want, but also for what leads to life and truth and does not contradict Your will. Help me trust You and accept Your answers, whatever they may be. Strengthen my faith. Amen.
