EPHESIANS 4:26 “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? The Apostle Paul speaks here about human anger and the importance of handling it properly. Interestingly, the Bible does not say, “Never feel anger”. Because emotions in themselves do not make a person bad. Sometimes a person can be angry because of injustice, pain, or betrayal. But the problem begins when anger begins to control one’s heart. Paul warns, “Be angry and do not sin”. That is, do not let your pain turn into hatred, destruction, resentment, revenge, or cruelty. And the words “do not let the sun go down on your anger” indicate that one cannot hold onto resentment for long. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? God knows how destructive unforgiven pain can be. When a person carries a grudge for a long time, anger gradually begins to change their heart: coldness, irritation, inner poison, and even emptiness appear. Sometimes one thinks they're holding on to a grudge for the sake of justice. But more often than not, it is the grudge itself that begins to hold them back. God does not simply want to prevent one from being angry. He wants to protect their heart from destruction. Forgiveness does not always mean there was no pain. But it does mean the person no longer allows that pain to control their entire life. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Because many relationships are destroyed not because of a single mistake, but because of the accumulated anger inside that no one talks about. A person can smile on the outside, but inside, they live with a deep grudge for years. And the longer the heart holds on to it, the heavier the soul becomes. This verse teaches us not to hide the pain deep inside, but to bring it to God and learn to reconcile and forgive in time. HOW TO USE IT TODAY 1. If you have accumulated anger or resentment inside, do not ignore it, but honestly admit it before God. And ask for help in letting go and forgiving it. 2. Do not make important decisions in a state of strong emotions and irritation. 3. Learn to speak, forgive, and let go of what destroys your heart from inside at the right time. CONCLUSION Anger is a feeling, but sin begins when anger begins to control man. God wants to teach man not to live in a constant internal war, but to keep his heart free from destructive resentment. FINAL THOUGHT Sometimes it seems to man that if he lets go of resentment, he will lose. But in reality, it is not the one who holds on to anger the longest who wins, but the one whose heart remains alive and capable of loving. Because resentment always destroys not the other person first, but the one who carries it inside. PRAYER Lord, You know all my wounds, grievances, and inner pain. Help me not let anger destroy my heart and relationships. Teach me to forgive, let go, and bring my emotions to You, and not live under the power of resentment. May my heart be filled with more of Your peace, love, and wisdom. Amen.
