HUMILITY

ISAIAH 2:17
“The pride of man will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted on that day”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse is about the moment when everything artificially exalted loses its loftiness. The prophet Isaiah speaks of a time when human pride, self-confidence, and false pretences will prove powerless. It is not just about punishment, but about dispelling illusions.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
God demonstrates that humans are prone to exalting themselves – their achievements, power, influence, status.
But everything built without God and for the sake of self-exaltation will one day collapse. “The Lord alone will be exalted” is not about humiliating man, but about restoring the right order:
God is the source and the Creator, while man is dependent on Him, he is a creation. When humans place themselves at the center, they inevitably face the fragility of their foundations and the severe consequences of pride.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The modern world teaches: “Be superior”, “prove”, “become a leader”. But the higher a person rises without God, the more painful the fall will be. This verse is both a warning and a protection: do not build your life on pride and self-confidence.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Check your heart: where do you seek advancement – in recognition, success, power, career?
• Humility is not a weakness, but reverence before God.
• Put God first, not in your words, but in your decisions and actions.
CONCLUSION
Pride leads to destruction. God remains the only immutable height. Where a person voluntarily humbles themselves, they will not be humiliated by circumstances.
FINAL THOUGHT
Sometimes God allows upheavals not for destruction, but to remove false supports. When what a person relied on instead of God falls, an opportunity opens up to see who is the true foundation of life.
PRAYER
Merciful God! Forgive me for my pathetic attempts to appear better, to place myself above others, and to think I am better than I really am. Forgive me for the pride and vanity that blind me. Help me get rid of this vice and grant me a meek and humble heart. May my hope and support be only in You. Amen.
