HUMILITY

JAMES 4:6
“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble’”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
Everyone needs God’s help. Yet not everyone is ready to admit that need. The Apostle James tells us that God responds differently to two states of the heart: pride and humility.
Pride says: “I can handle this on my own. I do not need God. I know better”.
Humility says: “Lord, I cannot manage without You. I need Your help”.
It is to such a heart that God gives His grace.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
God does not reject a person because of their weakness. However, He opposes pride, because a proud heart refuses to accept His help. Humility is not self-humiliation or a sense of worthlessness. It is honest admitting that, without God, a person cannot live life the way God intended. That is why God promises the humble not condemnation, but grace — His help, strength, and support.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Because the primary barrier between a person and God is not weakness, but pride.
God can lift up the fallen. He can forgive the sinner. He can heal a broken heart.
But as long as a person is convinced they do not need God, they close their heart to His work.
Humility opens the door to God’s grace. It allows God to do things in our lives that we could never accomplish on our own.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
1. If you have faced a difficulty, turn to God in prayer before trying to find a solution on your own.
2. Learn to accept correction and God’s instruction without making excuses for yourself.
3. Remind yourself every day that everything good in your life is, first and foremost, God’s grace — not just the result of your own merits.
CONCLUSION
God’s grace comes not to those who consider themselves strong, but to those who honestly admit their need for Him. It is in such a heart that God works the deepest transformation.
FINAL THOUGHT
Humility is not weakness. It is the courage to stop relying solely on oneself and to completely entrust oneself to God. True spiritual strength begins right with that.
PRAYER
Lord, I realize that without You, I cannot change my heart. Forgive me for the pride of relying only on myself, my own strength, and my own understanding. Teach me to live in humility, remembering each day how much I need You. Grant me Your grace, for without it, I cannot stand firm, make the right choices, or live a life that pleases You.
Guide me, correct me, and never let my heart drift away from You. I need You every day and at every step of my life. Amen.
