FORGIVENESS

JOHN 8:36
“So if the Son (Jesus Christ) sets you free, you will be free indeed”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
Jesus speaks of true human freedom. Most people understand freedom as the ability to live the way they want: to make choices, to build their lives, to make decisions.
But Jesus reveals a deeper reality: a person can be outwardly free, but still unfree inside. This is about inner slavery – the one which controls a person from within.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
Jesus says that a person can be bound by things they do not always control.
These could be:
— sinful habits,
— destructive desires,
— fears,
— feeling of guilt,
— dependence, including on the opinions of others,
— inner emptiness.
Often a person thinks, “I can handle this myself. I will change. I am in control of my life”.
But over time, it becomes clear that some things are stronger than human will.
Jesus says: true freedom comes only through Him. Why? Because Christ frees man from the root cause of inner bondage – sin, which destroys a person's relationship with God. Through His sacrifice, Christ gives man:
— forgiveness,
— a new heart,
— and a new life.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The world often calls freedom the ability to do whatever one wants.
But if a person's desires are controlled by fear, pride, addiction, or sin –
it is no longer freedom. Jesus speaks of a different kind of freedom – freedom of the heart. Freedom to live without inner bondage, without the constant burden of guilt, and without the destructive power of sin.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Take an honest look at your life: are there things that control you more than you would like?
• Admit that man cannot free himself from the bondage of sin.
• Turn to Christ and ask Him to free your heart.
• Begin to learn His Word (the Bible), communicate with Him (in prayer), and build your life on His truth.
CONCLUSION
True freedom is not just independence, but the liberation of the heart through Jesus Christ.
FINAL THOUGHT
A person can live their life thinking they are completely free. But only a meeting with Christ reveals what true freedom is – when the heart is liberated from what has been destroying it inside. And this freedom cannot be taken away by people or circumstances.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I often think I control my life, but You know everything that holds me in bondage to sin. Free me from what makes me an inwardly unfree person.
Forgive my sins and grant me a new life and a new heart. I believe and ask You to help me. I will not cope without You. Amen.
