HUMILITY

PROVERBS 28:9
“If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse explains an important spiritual Truth: prayer loses its power if a person deliberately rejects God's path. Not because God does not want to listen, but because man’s heart is closed - not to prayer, but to the Truth. This verse is about the state of the heart, not about the number of mistakes. God does not reject the weak or fallen - He rejects the stubborn and proud heart that does not want to listen to Him, but wants Him to listen to it.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
1. God does not hear words - God hears the heart. A person can say beautiful prayers, but live in inconsistency with what he says. He may ask for help, but close his heart to His Truth. God says: “I want a real thing, not a formality.” Prayer is a conversation between two hearts, not a “spiritual service.”
2. You cannot ask God to lead and continue to go against His path.
If a person consciously chooses evil, deception, pride, impurity, closes his heart to the truth, and then asks God to “bless” his path, his prayer does not work. Not because God is strict, but because man does not want to listen to Him.
3. God is always ready to hear when a person is ready to listen to Him.
Most importantly, this verse is not about God rejecting people. He only rejects disobedience and pride. But as soon as a person opens his heart and humbles himself, says honestly: “Lord, teach me”, his prayer becomes alive again.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Because many people want God to answer, but they do not want God to guide them and do not want His will be done. They want help, but they do not want to change their path. They want solutions, but do not want to listen to the Truth. This verse is a warning and a concern at the same time: prayer works when the heart is open.
CONCLUSION
Prayer is not magic, nor a ritual. This is a conversation between a living heart and the living God. It does not work when a person consciously rejects God's will and law. But it gains enormous power when a person comes to God sincerely, willing to listen, understand and change.
FINAL THOUGHT
God does not push away the weak and sinners. He does not accept closed and proud hearts. But as soon as a person opens his heart to humility and obedience, God hears even the quietest sigh. The shortest prayer becomes stronger than a thousand beautiful and loud words.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Tell God honestly: “Lord, teach me to listen to You and do Your will.”
• Revise an area of your life where you stubbornly act your own way, and ask for humility.
• Open the Bible – even just a couple of lines – and ask, “Show me what You want to say and teach”.
• Take a small action towards obedience and humility before God.
PRAYER
Lord, open my heart to Your Truth. Cleanse me from stubbornness, pride and self-will. Teach me to listen to You not only in prayer, but also in life. Let my prayer be sincere,
and let my heart be open to Your voice. Amen.
