EZEKIEL 17:24 “All the trees of the forest will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall, I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? God speaks through the prophet Ezekiel that He alone controls the destinies of people and nations. Like trees in a field – various in size, strength, and appearance – so too are people: some feel they are “tall”, “successful”, and “strong”, while others feel “dry” and “small”. But the verse says: everything is changed by God. He can humble the proud and exalt the humble. He can revive the withered and stunt what seemed to flourish. His word is final. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? 1. God exalts those whom the world ignores. If you feel like a “dry tree” – weak, forgotten, having no strength – God can breathe life into what is lacking it. In His hands, even the impossible becomes possible. 2. God demeans those who put themselves above others. Pride always leads downward. A person who thinks they can do everything themselves, that they are “their own god”, will one day see that without God, everything collapses. 3. Everything in life is not an accident, but God's plan. To wither what is green and revive what is dry means that God directs processes as He sees the right way. Where human strength ends, God's power begins. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Because today's world is built on pride, self-confidence, rushing, “I made it myself”, “I am my own support”. But this verse reminds us: true strength and destiny are in God’s hands, not in human pride. He lifts up not those who shout the loudest, but those who trust Him. He does not look at the external, but only at the heart. And He is able to revive what seemed hopeless. CONCLUSION God is the one who changes everything. He can make the low high, the weak strong, the empty filled. What people dismiss, God lifts up. What people exalt, He can stop. A person's destiny is not in the hands of circumstances, not in the hands of people, and not in the hands of the person themselves. It is in God’s hands. FINAL THOUGHT You are not a “withered tree” or a “small bush” if God has set His sights on you. He can bring growth where there is no soil. Strength – where resources are running out. And life – where you have already put a full stop. When God says, “I will do it”, nothing can stop it. His word changes reality, no matter what it looks like today. HOW TO USE IT TODAY 1. Resign from the “I can do it all myself” mindset. Try honestly telling God, “I need Your help”. This is the beginning of growth. 2. Bring your “dry places” to Him. Things you are disappointed in, tired of, burned out about, ashamed of. God can revive even ashes. 3. Do not envy “tall trees”. People do not see the future, but God does. He knows when to lift you up and when to stop you. 4. Ask God to change your heart, not only the circumstances. He lifts us up not because of our strength, but because of our sincerity before Him. PRAYER Lord, You see my life completely. Sometimes I feel like a dry tree – having no strength, hopeless, without growth. I give You everything that is broken, burned out, or dried up within me. Let Your strength revive what I can no longer lift on my own. Teach my heart to get humbled, so that pride does not blind me to You. Raise me as You want, and let me live not by my own strength, but by Yours. Amen.
