JOHN 5:24 “Truly, truly I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged, but has crossed over from death to life”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? In this verse, Jesus speaks about man's greatest problem and its solution. From the Biblical perspective, man's greatest problem is not illness, hardship, or even physical death. The greatest problem is a broken relationship with God. This break is called spiritual death. A person can be physically alive, but live without God – without truth, without inner peace, without understanding the meaning of life. Jesus says there is a way out of this state. And that way is to hear His word and trust God. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? The verse contains three profound thoughts. 1. “WHOEVER HEARS MY WORD” This is not just about hearing information. You can know about God, read the Bible, listen to sermons, go to church – and still have a closed heart. Listening means letting the word into your heart, allowing it to touch your life and begin to change it. This is the moment when a person begins to ask questions: • Why do I live? • Where is the truth? • Does God really exist? Often, it is with such questions that the path to God begins. 2. “BELIEVES HIM WHO SENT ME” Jesus speaks of trust in God. Faith in the Bible is not simply the thought, “Maybe God exists”. It is entrusting the God with one's life, like a child trusting a parent. A person admits: — God knows the truth. — God knows the path. — God can change my life. And this trust becomes the beginning of a true relationship with God. 3. "CROSSED OVER FROM DEATH TO LIFE" This is the most powerful part of the verse. Jesus speaks not simply about the future, but about what is already happening within a person. When a person comes to God, an internal transition occurs: what it was — emptiness — confusion — fear — living only for the temporary things what it becomes — meaning — hope — peace in the heart — life with God. Jesus calls this crossing over from death to life. Why is it said: "WILL NOT BE JUDGED"? Many people fear the thought of God's judgment. But the meaning of Jesus' words is that He takes responsibility for the person who trusts Him. Later in the Bible, it is revealed that Jesus Himself bore the punishment for man's sin through His sacrifice. Therefore, those who trust Christ are not left alone before God's judgment. The price has already been paid. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Even if one has never read the Bible, within everyone there are questions: • Why do I live? • What will happen after death? • Is there true meaning? Jesus answers these questions very simply: true life begins when a person finds God. Not religion. Not rules. But a living relationship with God. HOW TO USE IT TODAY Sometimes the path to God begins with a very simple step – honesty. You can simply say to God, “If You exist, reveal Yourself to me. I want to understand the truth”. And surprisingly, it is exactly with such simple words and an open heart that a true meeting with God begins for many people. CONCLUSION Jesus says something amazing: eternal life is not just a future after death. It is a new life that can begin right now. When a person begins to listen to God and trust Him. FINAL THOUGHT There is a quiet but very strong hope in this verse. God does not say to man, “First become perfect”. He says, “Hear Me and trust Me”. And from that moment begins the journey from darkness to light, from emptiness to life, from death to eternity. PRAYER Lord, I believe You hear me. Help my heart come to know You. I long to learn the truth and find true life and meaning. Reveal Yourself to me. Fill my heart with light, peace, hope, and love. And lead me to eternal life. Amen.
