JEREMIAH 10:10
“But the Lord is the truth; he is the living God and the everlasting King…”
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse is spoken against the backdrop of people worshiping idols, things they made themselves of wood, metal, their own ideas.
They looked “like gods”, but inside they were empty, unable to speak, act, or save. And God contrasts with this: I am real, I am living, I am true.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
1. “THE LORD IS THE TRUTH” — HE IS NOT CREATED BY MAN.
Idols are always something that man creates for himself: convenient, understandable, manageable.
But God says: I am not something that can be invented or manipulated. I am the truth, independent of man. This means: it is not man who defines God, but God who defines reality.
2. “THE LIVING GOD” — HE ACTS AND RESPONSES.
The main difference: idols are lifeless, God is living.
He sees, speaks, intervenes, and changes lives.
He is not an image or a symbol — he is a Person with Whom a real relationship is possible.
3. “THE EVERLASTING KING” — HE IS BEYOND TIME AND ABOVE EVERYTHING.
Everything man creates is temporary and perishable, limited, and dependent on circumstances.
God is not. He does not change or lose power. This means that He remains the same in any circumstances of man's life.
4. CONTRAST: THE LIVING GOD AND “DEAD SUPPORTS”
The essence of the verse is in the contrast: man tends to rely on what seems reliable,
but in reality has no life inside. The prophet Jeremiah shows that one can live relying on something “empty” and not even notice it.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Modern people may not have idols in the literal sense, but they can create them in essence: their ideas about God, their supports and sources of meaning, as well as everything that takes up the most time and energy.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
1. Ask yourself a question: Is God reality and truth for me, or an idea?
2. Check what you truly rely on in life and what holds the first place in your heart.
3. Seek not a “convenient God”, but a real and true God.
4. Build a relationship with God as a living being, not an abstract or imagined one.
CONCLUSION
There is a fundamental difference between believing in the idea of God and meeting the living God.
FINAL THOUGHT
Man can create anything except life. And therefore, he always seeks it. And this verse says: life is not in what is created, but in the One Who is the truth.
PRAYER
Lord, forgive me for allowing the perishable and earthly to become an idol and take the first place in my heart, consuming my time and energy.
Teach me to rely only on You and build my life on truth. Help me to know the truth every day and protect me from idols and vanity. Amen.
