HUMILITY

MARK 9:35
“And, sitting down, He called the Twelve and said, ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all’”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
Jesus speaks to his disciples about true leadership. They were arguing over who was greater, but Christ demonstrates that in the Kingdom of God, greatness is measured not by power, but by humility and a willingness to serve others.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
1. God looks not at how much power or achievements we have, but at the condition of our hearts.
2. True strength lies in the ability to put others before ourselves.
3. Those who serve others for God's sake become great in His eyes, even if they remain invisible in the world.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
We live in a culture where it is common to strive to be “first” – successful, visible, recognized. But God's way is the opposite: he who wants to be first must learn to be last. This destroys pride, softens one’s heart, and teaches one to love in a true way, without self-interest.
CONCLUSION
To be first, in God's sight, means to be willing to serve. This is not a weakness, but the greatest strength, because it comes from love and humility, not from a desire for glory and recognition.
FINAL THOUGHT
Christ did not just say these words – He lived them. He, the King of the entire world, became a servant, washed the disciples' feet, and died for us. When we choose the path of humility and service to others, we become like Him.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
1. Do a good deed without expecting gratitude.
2. Listen to others with attention, not with the desire to prove you are right.
3. Learn to be happy when someone else is “first”.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to be humble like You. Grant me a heart free from pride and the thirst for recognition. Let every action of mine be filled with love, not a desire to be superior to others. Let my life be a reflection of Your humility and Your love. Amen.
