WISDOM MATTHEW 24:4–6 “Jesus answered: watch out that no one deceives you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not terrified. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? This is part of Jesus' prophetic speech about the end times. The disciples ask Him about the signs of the end of the world and the coming of the Lord. And the first thing Jesus says is not about catastrophes and disasters, but about spiritual deception. “Watch out that no one deceives you”. He warns: false Christs will appear – people who will claim to be the Savior; there will be much deception, panic, fear, wars—but this is not a sign of the end, but only the beginning. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? 1. The devil's main weapon is deception and cunning. Jesus does not simply say: there will be troubles. He warns: “Beware that you are not deceived”. Deception is a spiritual attack aimed at the heart of the believer. False teachers will use Christ’s name, but distort the truth. The true Christ always leads to humility, forgiveness, holiness, and love. And the false Christ leads to egocentrism, pride, fear, and control. 2. Global upheavals are not a cause for fear. Jesus says: “You will hear of wars... but do not be terrified." This is both a warning and a consolation. God is not surprised by what is happening. Everything is under His control, even when it seems like the world is collapsing. 3. This is not the end. This is preparation. “The end is still to come” means we must not lose focus on the main thing - the Truth: it is important not just to know what is happening, but to understand how to live in it. Jesus does not give us an end date - He gives us guidelines so that we do not go astray and stay awake and trust only Him, not the news, forecasts or rumors. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Because in the last times, many people will be deceived – even those who think they “know everything”. Our focus is not on fear, but on faithfulness to God and vigilance. We must not rely on news or emotions, but only on God's Word and intimacy with Christ, for only He can provide protection, help, and faith in these difficult times. HOW TO USE IT TODAY Be attentive to the spiritual content: not everything that is “in the name of Christ” actually comes from Christ. Test everything through the Bible and prayer. The Bible contains everything that will help you not to go astray and distinguish deception from truth. Do not give in to panic – even if there is instability around you. Remember: God has already warned – and He holds everything in His hand. Do not read, watch, or discuss anything that creates panic and fear in your heart. CONCLUSION A disciple of Christ’s is not the one who knows everything about the end, but someone who is not deceived, not frightened, and not led astray from the path of truth. Jesus calls us to be vigilant, not to panic. To be faithful, not curious. To be steadfast, not naive. To remember that in the last days there will be many false teachers. FINAL THOUGHT Satan operates not only through fear, but also through pseudo-hope for false messiahs, coaches, and beautiful speeches. But God says: “Beware. Be alert and do not be terrified. Trust in Me. This is not the end”. PRAYER Lord, help me not to be deceived. Grant me the wisdom to discern truth from deception, Your voice from that of others. Fill my heart with trust and peace, not fear and panic. Strengthen my faith so that, when everything around me is shaken, I stand on Your word and truth. Teach me to be vigilant, to be attentive, and not to succumb to the spirit of deception and seduction. Amen.
