GALATIANS 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? This verse is about a person's inner struggle. The Apostle Paul speaks of two directions in life: by the spirit and by to the flesh. This is not about the body as it is, but about two different sources of controlling life. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? “Flesh” is the old human nature, the tendency to live for oneself: one's own desires, impulses, pride, resentments, and passions. “Spirit” is life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit: a life oriented toward truth, love, and obedience to God. Important: Paul does not say, “Combat the flesh directly”. He says, “Walk by the Spirit”.The focus is not on prohibition, but on direction. When a person lives in closeness with God, the desires that previously controlled them gradually lose their power. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Many people try to change themselves through willpower. But external struggle without internal renewal often leads to disappointment. This verse shows a deeper path: not simply suppressing desires, but changing the source of life. HOW TO USE IT TODAY • Pay attention to what most often guides your decisions: emotions or God's word. • Start your day with turning to God, and not only with your plans. • At the moments of temptation, remember: your path is to walk by the spirit. CONCLUSION Victory over sin begins not with pressure, but with the right direction. When a person follows the Spirit, their inner desires begin to change. FINAL THOUGHT Life is always controlled by someone or something. The question is not whether there is influence, but whose it is. Where a person chooses to follow God, true freedom emerges. PRAYER Lord, I see the struggle inside myself. Teach me to live by the Spirit, not by the old desires. May Your presence guide me and give me the strength to always choose the truth and act according to Your will. Amen.
