1 CORINTHIANS 15:19
“If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
Paul says: if we only need our faith in Christ oly here on earth – to make things a little easier, calmer, or “safer” – then we have completely missed the point. Because Christ is not just help “for today”. He is the path to the eternal life, to what will continue after the physical death. If we take away resurrection and eternity, faith loses its meaning.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
1. FAITH IS NOT ABOUT “IT WILL GET BETTER NOW”.
God says, "I did not give you temporary hope. I gave you eternal hope”.
2. CHRIST IS NOT TEMPORARY PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT
He does not just comfort. He conquers death. This means our life does not end with the moment of our last breath.
3. YOU HAVE MORE THAN THIS SHORT LIFE
God shows us: the most important things are ahead. Eternity. Life with Him. Something that can never be destroyed.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Because many people only seek “right now” help in faith – to solve problems, relieve anxiety, feel support, receive healing, etc. But people become disillusioned when they think Christianity is about comfort and the fulfillment of all wishes. Paul says:
Christianity is about a hope which is stronger than death. About a meaning that does not disappear. If faith is only limited to earth, it is too small. But God gives infinitely more.
CONCLUSION
Christ is not than just a support during difficult earthly times. He is the One who opened the way to eternity. If we only believe for the sake of earthly things, we miss the greatest essence and power.
FINAL THOUGHT
People make plans for a year, for ten years, for a lifetime. But God calls us to look beyond – to where death does not put the full stop.
Faith becomes true when we understand: Christ is the hope that lives even where the earthly life ends.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Take an honest look at your faith: am I only looking to God for help “for today”, or am I seeking Him?
• Remind yourself: God does not just give me temporary relief – He gives me eternal life.
• When you face fear, thoughts about the future, or a feeling of emptiness, say:
“My hope is not only in this life. My hope is in Christ and in the eternity”.
• Try to live not only for today's tasks, but also with the thought that God is leading you to something greater than this short earthly story.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to see You not only as help for today, but as a source of eternal hope.
Fill my heart with the understanding that life with You continues beyond the earthly boundaries.
Grant me a faith that looks to eternity and always clings to Christ, Who forever conquered death. Amen.
