JOHN 17:3
“Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
These are the words of Jesus' prayer to God the Father before His crucifixion. In this verse, Christ directly explains what eternal life is. People often think that eternal life is simply an endless existence after death. But Jesus says: eternal life is coming to know God.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
“That they know You” – this is not simply about knowing facts about God's existence.
One can read books, hear sermons, study religion, and be a theologian, and still not know God. In the Bible, the word “know” refers to a personal relationship: trust, closeness, communication.
Jesus reveals an important truth: man was created for a relationship with God. But sin broke this connection. That is why Christ came into the world to restore man's relationship with God through His sacrifice. When a person accepts Jesus Christ and begins to seek God, a new reality begins in their life – a life with God that continues even after death.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Everyone searches for meaning in life. Some seek it in their careers, some in money, some in relationships or achievements. But even after achieving much, a person can feel inner emptiness. The Bible explains why: man was created for God. Jesus says that true life begins when a person finds God.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Consider whether you know God personally, have only heard of Him, or formally believe in Him.
• Begin to seek Him sincerely and with all your heart –through prayer, through reading the Bible. Remember, he who seeks finds.
• Turn to Christ in prayer of repentance and entrust your life to Him.
• Build a relationship with God every day, not just recalling Him in difficult times.
CONCLUSION
Eternal life is not simply life after physical death, but life that begins when a person comes to know God through Jesus Christ.
FINAL THOUGHT
The most important question in life is not how long a person will live or what they will become, but whether they know God. For it is a relationship with God that makes a person's life true and, most importantly, opens the door to eternity.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing the truth and great Love. I want to truly come to know You and God the Father, Who sent You. Teach me to seek You and live in Your presence, growing in truth every day. Teach me to love as You love. Amen.
