FORGIVENESS

1 JOHN 3:20
“If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse is about the inner condemnation of conscience and God's omniscience. The Apostle John speaks of a state when a person feels guilt, shame, and the burden of the past. This is familiar to almost everyone: the heart seems to announce a verdict and does not give peace.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
The phrase sounds stern, but its depth is in comforting. Yes, God knows everything – more than our hearts know. But exactly because He knows everything completely does His judgment differ from our inner condemnation. Our hearts may feel despair, endlessly returning to past mistakes, but God sees the whole picture: He sees not only the sin, but also sincere repentance. Not only the fall, but also the struggle. Not only a weakness, but also the desire to change. God is greater than our hearts – and therefore, His mercy is greater than our self-accusation.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Many people live with a constant feeling of guilt. They think God looks at them as strictly as they do. This verse reminds us: God's gaze is deeper than your fear. His truth is broader than your inner judgment. His mercy can silence the accusing voice inside after sincere repentance.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• If your conscience accuses you, do not close yourself off, but bring it to God in prayer.
• If the voice of conscience leads you to repentance, repent sincerely.
• Do not live in endless self-punishment—trust God. His mercy is above judgment.
CONCLUSION
A feeling of guilt is not a final verdict. If there is sincere repentance, God sees it fully and gives peace to the heart that comes to Him.
FINAL THOUGHT
Sometimes the most difficult thing is the persistent feeling of guilt. But God is greater than the inner accuser
Where one’s heart trembles, He can bring peace if the person does not run away, but comes to Him with an open, humble heart and a sincere desire to repent.
PRAYER
Lord, forgive me for my sins, both conscious and unconscious. My heart accuses me and does not give me peace... You know everything – both my mistakes and my repentance. Help me accept Your forgiveness
instead of internal condemnation. Fill my heart with Your peace and forgiveness. Amen.
