WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse is about two states of the heart: humility before God and pride expressed in self-reliance. And about the consequences of each.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
1. “THOSE WHO TRUST IN THEMSELVES”
This is not simply about self-confidence. It is deeper: when a person makes themselves the center and support, considers their own understanding sufficient, and does not need God as a source. This is the essence of pride: living as if you are your own foundation.
2. WHY IS THIS CALLED FOOLISHNESS?
Not simply because a person is “stupid”, but because it is a fallacy of foundation. Man has limits,
but relying on himself, he acts as if he is unlimited. And this holds a contradiction with reality and brings stupidity. Therefore, it leads to mistakes and, ultimately, to destruction.
3. “THOSE WHO WALK IN WISDOM”
This is the opposite. Wisdom is not simply knowledge or experience, but the right attitude of one’s heart: the person does not make themselves the support, but recognizes that the source is higher than them, and that is God.
4. HUMILITY AS A FOUNDATION
Here lies a hidden depth: humility is not about outward modesty and agreement with everything, but about inner understanding: I am not the source, I do not control everything, I need God. And this is exactly what gives the right direction.
5. “ARE KEPT SAFE”
Safe means preserved, not destroyed. This is not a promise of an easy life, but a promise that a person
will not lose their foundation and will not destroy themselves from within.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The most subtle form of pride today is not arrogance, but an inner attitude: “I'll figure it out myself”, “I'll decide for myself”, “I know for myself”. A person may even talk about God and believe in Him, but rely only on themselves in their decisions. And this becomes the norm. But this verse says: this is the point where a person begins to lose direction. Because they put themselves in a place that does not belong to them.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
1. Ask yourself an honest question: what do I really rely on?
2. See where decisions are made without regard for God.
3. Learn humility from Christ.
4. Shift your reliance from yourself to God.

FINAL THOUGHT
Pride rarely looks like “pride”. More often, it is calm confidence: “I can handle it myself, and I am self-sufficient”. But it is exactly at this point that a person imperceptibly breaks away from the source. And only humility returns them to the right foundation and protects them from destruction.

Lord, show me where I rely on myself without realizing it. Teach me humility and the right position of my heart before You. Help me not to put myself in Your place. Be my support in every decision. Amen.
