MATTHEW 16:26–27
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with His Angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will repay each person according to what they have done”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
This verse is about the true value of life and what truly matters in the end.

WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
“What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world?” — Jesus takes the maximum possible:
everything one can get — success, power, money, recognition.
“And forfeits his soul” — the soul is not just “a part of a person”, but the person themselves deep down:
their essence, their life before God.
The meaning is that one can outwardly gain everything, but lose oneself inside.
“What shall a man give in return for his soul?” – it is a rhetorical question.
Answer: nothing.
If a person loses what is inside, it cannot be compensated for by anything external. There is no substitute for the soul.
“The Son of Man is going to come... and repay each person” — Jesus shifts his focus to the result.
Life does not end with just the present. There will be a moment when it becomes clear what was real and what was temporary. And then what matters is not what a person acquired,
but who they have become inside.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
People live as if the most important thing is to achieve, receive, and hold on to something. And they often sacrifice their inner state, honesty, and truth for external results.
But Jesus says: this is a mistake of scale. Because everything external is temporary, but the soul is not.
And the greatest risk is exchanging the eternal for the temporary without realizing it.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
• Ask yourself a question: what is truly most important to me in my life?
• Check that you are not sacrificing the internal for the external.
• Realize that not everything can be compensated for and set the right priorities.
• Look at life not only from the perspective of the “now”, but also from the standpoint of the “ultimate”.

and for not noticing how I am drifting away from You. Grant me the sobriety to see what is truly important.
Teach me to live so as not to lose my soul in pursuit of what will disappear one day. Return my heart to You and the truth. Amen.
