LUKE 20:34–36
“Jesus replied, ‘The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the Angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection’”.

WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT?
Jesus speaks these words in response to the Sadducees, who did not believe in the resurrection. They sought to stump Jesus by making up a story about a woman who, under the Law of Moses, had successively been the wife of seven brothers.
Their question was: “In the resurrection, whose wife will she be?”
But the question contained a misconception. The Sadducees envisioned eternal life as merely a continuation of earthly life. Jesus explains that the resurrection is not a return to one's former life, but the beginning of an entirely new reality.
WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE?
God has prepared a life for His children that far surpasses anything we can imagine. Resurrection is not a replay of earthly life with all its laws and limitations. In eternity, there will be no more death, no need to propagate the human race through marriage, and no fear of losing loved ones. When Jesus says the resurrected are “like the Angels”, He does not mean that humans will become angels. He means that, like angels, they will no longer be subject to death. The supreme joy of eternal life will not be the preservation of the familiar earthly order, but perfect communion with God.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Because we often try to imagine heaven based solely on our earthly experiences. Yet God’s plans are far greater than our conceptions. This verse reminds us that eternal life is not just endless existence. It is a life completely liberated from death, pain, sin, and everything that destroys people today.
It is exactly this hope that enables a Christian to look beyond temporary circumstances.
HOW TO USE IT TODAY
1. Remember that earthly life is temporary, and strive to live without losing sight of eternity.
2. If death or the uncertainty of the future frightens you, entrust your fears to Christ, Who has conquered death.
3. Thank God for the hope of resurrection and allow this hope to shape your decisions and values today.
CONCLUSION
Resurrection is not returning to one’s former life. It is the beginning of a new life with God — a life over which death will never again hold power.
FINAL THOUGHT
We do not know all the details of the life to come. But we know the most important thing: everything God has prepared for those who love Him will be incomparably more beautiful than anything we can imagine today. And that is enough to trust Him.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for the promise of eternal life. When I find it hard to look beyond today, remind me that You have prepared a future for Your children, which will be free from death, pain, and fear. Help me to live in the hope of resurrection and to trust You even in matters I do not yet understand. May the anticipation of eternal life make me more faithful to You this very day.
Amen.
