EPHESIANS 6:11, 14–17 “Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? The Apostle Paul shows that a Christian's path is a spiritual battle. And to endure it, human efforts are not enough – we need to “put on the whole armour of God”. This is not literal armour, but the spiritual qualities and gifts that God gives His children for their victory over the forces of darkness. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? 1. The battle goes on every day. The enemy uses "wiles" – cunning, deception, doubts, temptations. If we are unarmed, it is easy to succumb. 2. The whole armour of God is not just an option, but a necessity. “Put on... that you may be able to stand against". We do not simply “live by faith” – we stand firm, defending ourselves and others from attacks. 3. Each piece of the armour is a special means of protection: 1. The belt of truth – the Word of God as the foundation of everything; truth unites everything, like a belt holds armour together. 2. The breastplate of righteousness – the protection of the heart: righteous living and the understanding that we are justified in Christ. 3. The shoes of preparedness for the gospel of peace – the confidence and desire to go and share the Gospel. 4. The shield of faith – trust in God, which extinguishes the arrows of doubt, fear, and accusations. 5. The helmet of salvation – the protection of our mind, a reminder that we are saved and belong to God. 6. The sword of the spirit (the Word of God – the Bible) – the only offensive weapon. This is not simply knowledge of the Bible, but the ability to apply the Word in any situation. HOW TO USE IT TODAY 1. Remind yourself daily of the truth of God's Word – it is your protection from deception in this world. 2. Do not agree to compromise with sin – the armour of righteousness cracks under the weight of secret weaknesses. 3. Be ready to share your faith – through words and actions. 4. Strengthen your faith with prayer and the Word (Bible) – it is your shield. 5. Protect your mind – do not allow illusions to take root; social media, news, and marathons/trainings often lead you away from the truth and common sense. 6. Learn to use the Word (Bible) as a weapon – respond to the enemy with God's truths, like Jesus did during the wilderness trial. CONCLUSION We, as we are, are not stronger than the enemy. But in Christ, God has given us a full kit of spiritual armour so that we can stand firm and win. It is not those physically stronger who wins, but the one clothed in God's power and truth. FINAL THOUGHT God did not leave us unarmed. He knew it would be difficult, and He provided everything necessary for victory. The whole armour of God is not just protection; it is a sign of our belonging to Christ. And every time we choose truth, righteousness, faith, the Word, we stand not in our own strength, but in the strength of the One who has already won. The devil's victory is when we lay down our armour. The believer's victory is when he stands firm to the end in God's power. PRAYER Lord, I thank You for not leaving me without defence. Help me daily put on Your whole armour: to hold fast to the truth, to keep righteousness, to strengthen my faith, to feed on Your Word, and to share the good news. Teach me to stand firm in the battle, to endure, to believe, and not to lose heart when the enemy attacks. You are my strength, my victory, and my defence. Amen.
