JOHN 3:8 “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit”.
WHAT IS THIS VERSE ABOUT? Jesus speaks these words to Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews, who did not understand what it means “to be born from above”. Then Jesus gives the example of the wind. In Greek, the words “spirit” and “wind” are very close in meaning. The wind cannot be seen with the eyes. We cannot take it in our hands on it or fully explain it. But we see its action: trees sway, clouds move, waves rise. The Holy Spirit works the same way. We cannot always explain how exactly God touches a person’s heart, but we can see the result: the person begins to change, love what was previously indifferent to him, seek God, forgive, believe and live in a different way. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS VERSE? God acts deeper than the human eye can see. Very often people want to understand, explain, prove and control everything. But the work of the Holy Spirit is not subject to human schemes. No one can force the wind to blow in the right direction. Likewise, no one can produce spiritual life in their heart on their own. It is done by God. And when God begins to act in a person, changes occur not only outside, but primarily inside. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Because sometimes a person looks at themselves or at other people and thinks: “This person will never change”. “Nothing will work with me anymore”. But the Holy Spirit is able to do what is impossible for man. He touches hearts where human words are powerless. This verse reminds us that spiritual life begins not with human effort, but with God's work in the heart. HOW TO USE IT TODAY 1. Pray not only that God will change circumstances, but first of all the hearts of people. The Holy Spirit is able to do what no persuasion or proof can do. 2. Stop trying to control everything on your own. If there is a situation that you cannot change, trust it to God and ask Him to act where human capabilities end. 3. Be attentive to the quiet promptings of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes God reminds you to call a person, support someone, pray, or do a good deed. Learn to respond to these impulses. CONCLUSION The Holy Spirit works invisibly but really. We do not always understand exactly how God works, but we can see the fruits of His presence in a person's life. FINAL THOUGHT It is impossible to see the wind, but it is also impossible to deny its effect. Likewise, God's work in a person's heart may be invisible to the eye, but one day its fruits become visible to everyone. God often acts quietly, but it is these quiet touches that can completely change a person’s life. PRAYER Lord, thank You for acting even when I do not see or understand it. I cannot change my heart on my own, but You can. Holy Spirit, work in me, change me, guide me and teach me to follow You. Help me to trust You more than my feelings and understanding. Amen.
